Good enough for government work

When North Bend drivers go forth on Fourth Street, they’re in for a typographical test. Fourth is spelled forth on the recently installed road sign.

Ron Garrow, North Bend public works director, said the state installed the sign as part of its recent paving project on state Route 202. Garrow said his staff contacted the state about the error soon after noticing it, but some project leaders were unaware of the snafu as of late last week.

“If we put that up, we’ll have [the sign company] fix that,” said Dave Lindberg, Washington State Department of Transportation project engineer.

Contractor Watson Asphalt Paving Co. crews repaved about 4.5 miles of state Route 202, added centerline rumble strips and installed guardrails between state Route 202 and Snoqualmie Parkway. Crews also repaved three bridges across the Snoqualmie River and sections of the highway in North Bend. Construction began April 23 and finished July 11, six days ahead of schedule. The project cost $2.4 million.
