Carnation Scout completes Eagle project

In ceremonies held at Carnation Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 30,

members of Boy Scout Troop 411, American Legion Post 199 and other

supporters gathered to observe the dedication of a new memorial flagpole.

Eagle Scout candidate Paul Stevens, a member of

Carnation’s Troop 411, installed the flagpole as part of his community service

project. The project _ designed to demonstrate responsibility and planning

skills while benefiting the community _ is an integral part of the Eagle

Scout qualification process.

A group of about 30 observed as Stevens led the proceedings,

which included a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and a “one-gun” salute

by an honor guard.

Afterwards, Stevens thanked the following contributors who

helped make the project possible: American Legion Post 199 and the City of

Carnation, for funding the flagpole; Custom Concrete Casting, which

donated the supplies and helped fabricate the pedestal; Gary Pattern Works,

which made the tooling for the plaque; Pentz Design, for donating materials

and manufacturing the plaque; Troop 411, for their help with everything in

the project, including the donation of their time, service and generosity;

friends and fellow scouts, for their assistance; and his family, “for giving me the

support I needed to do my project, and giving everything possible.”

Scoutmaster for Troop 411 is Dan Acker. The troop’s Senior

Patrol Leader is Matt Acker.
