Car Falls 150 feet to lake rim

Four persons had a narrow escape from death
early Saturday when their light sedan skidded out of
control across the Sunset Highway four miles west of
North Bend and plummeted 150 feet down a bank to the
edge of Echo Lake.
Sgt. L.H. Baker, who investigated, reported that
the driver, Bruce A. Taylor, Seattle, was attempting to
pass another eastbound car when the accident occurred at
5:30 a.m.
Taylor completed his pass, Baker said, but got
into the loose gravel on the 30-foot shoulder. The car
skidded in the gravel and traveled across the blacktop in
front of the other vehicle before going over the bank.
Taylor, 48, sustained lacerations of the head,
face and legs. Mary Johnson, 40, Seattle, suffered a
compound fracture of the left ankle. Dr. E.W.
Templeton, Snoqualmie, went down the bank to treat the
injured woman at the scene of the crash. Taylor and Miss
Johnson were taken to Harborview.
Car Demolished
Also injured were Gudie Benedict, 34, Seattle,
who incurred a back injury and laceration of the head,
and James Marshall, 34, Seattle, who had lacerations of
the head and a possible shoulder fracture. Both
received first aid at Nelems Memorial Hospital before being
transferred to Seattle.
The car, a ’41 light sedan, was a total wreck,
Baker said. Driver of the other vehicle was Stanley Larson
of Snoqualmie.
Sgt. Baker said that Taylor will receive a citation
for negligent driving.
LeRoy S. Ducken, Carnation, was injured fatally
and two Issaquah men were hurt in another crash at
10:30 p.m. Thursday on the Fall City-Preston Road. Sgt.
Baker and State Patrolman A.J. Brozovich, said Ducken
was trying to pass an automobile on a curve 1 1/2 miles
south of Fall City when his pickup truck collided almost
head on with an oncoming car.
Driver of the car, Albert Eugene Hogback, 20,
of Issaquah, suffered cuts and bruises. A passenger,
Fred Dafler, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken
to Nelems Memorial Hospital.
