Letter | North Bend should find ways to make truckers feel welcome

After reading Casondra Brewster’s comment in the latest “Letters” I wanted to jump up and down and say, “Finally, someone is paying attention. Someone understands.”

These folks bring us everything under the sun and what do most people do here? Complain that they are here, along the road, in the way, whatever. Does the town give them a spot to get out of the way? Obviously not.

Driving a long haul rig is no picnic, anyway. Expensive to maintain, difficult to park and oft times dangerous as all get out.

As Brewster stated, “Why not welcome them?” As well we should.

If they ever decided to create a strike, people would realize how incredibly important they are and treat them in a manner more appropriate. I think her idea of creating a space for them is invaluable.

If I were wealthy, it is one of the things I would like to do but as I’m not, let’s take her thoughts and put them to good use. Work for the truckers, not against.
