The Mount Si girls’ tennis team finished their regular season by beating the Sammamish Totems for the first time in nine years in league play last Tuesday. The Wildcats pulled out a 5-4 victory.

Leading the way was sophomore Kelsey Wise. Wise upped her mark to 5-2 on the season with a singles victory over Sammamish’s Amy Tseng. The scores were 6-1, 6-0.

Britta Safstrom and Janelle Campbell also recorded victories for Mount Si in singles. Wise teamed up with Kathryn McFarland to post a 6-2, 6-2 doubles victory over Tseng and Claire Wolf of the Totems. Amber McCrory and Carly Nelson sealed the Wildcat match victory with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 come-from-behind win over Sammamish’s Ali Millrood and Rebecca Hasz in another doubles contest.

Wise, McFarland, Safstrom, Rosie Lockie, Cortney Becker and Alina Plavsky all were selected to compete in postseason action, which began last weekend with the Kingco tournament. Lockie and Becker were expected to play singles, while the remainder of the players were to play doubles, with McFarland and Wise setting up one pairing, and Plavsky and Safstrom the other.

Regardless of how well Wise performs in postseason, Mount Si coach Sue Gallacher has high expecations of her sophomore next season as a junior. “She’s been amazing and we expect great things from her next year, as well,” Gallacher said.

Another thing that might be a good sign for next year is the success of this spring’s junior varsity squad. The team finished 9-2-1.
