Volleyball teams win in non-league matches

In non-league play last week, Mount Si’s girls volleyball teams had a winning night on the road. The Wildcats played Issaquah, winning both JV and varsity matches.

In non-league play last week, Mount Si’s girls volleyball teams had a winning night on the road. The Wildcats played Issaquah, winning both JV and varsity matches.

The varsity team won the first two rounds of the match, 25-21 and 25-13, but lost momentum in the third game. After the 17-25 loss, the girls came back for to win the game 25-19 and the match. Their record so far is 3-2, with no league games played.

Haley Holmberg led the Wildcats’ scoring with 15 kills, plus 6 aces and 15 digs. Patience Oneal followed her lead closely with 12 kills, 5 aces and 10 digs. Courtney Carr was also a key player with 32 assists for the night. She also served one ace and made 5 digs. Harper Click and Sophie Click each made 2 kills during the game; Sophie also served 4 aces and made 4 digs while Harper made a dig. Katie Larson added 3 aces and a dig to her stats, Cameron Kendall had 8 digs, Karlie Stewart had an ace and Amanda Harkleroad made 1 assist with 5 aces.

In the JV game, Mount Si won the overall match after a first-game loss, 13-25, 25-20 and 15-8. The top Mount Si hitter on the night was Annalise Jensen with 4 kills and an ace. Top servers were Macy Baltasar with an ace, Dana Kenow with 4 and Kami Smith, who had 10 assists and 6 digs. Baltasar also made 6 kills and 13 digs; Kenow added 10 digs. Along with Keno, Lilly Bachand led the defensive effort, scoring 7 digs, plus 3 kills.  Emma Anderson had 1 kill and 3-assists; Karlie Stewart had 3 kills; and Bellah Gogan, Emma Anderson, Hayley West and Sara Kaitlyn Mitchell each had 1 kill. Gogal also had an ace and 2 digs, while Anderson had 3 assists and 4 digs.

Varsity traveled to the Kent Classic tournament Saturday, and hosted Edmonds-Woodway Monday.
