Wolves crush Wildcats

The Mount Si varsity baseball team played a make-up game with the Cedarcrest Red Wolves last week at Tolt. Eight errors by the Wildcats allowed the Red Wolves to add a 9-1 win to their record.

Mike Dahm opened the game pitching and gave up two runs in the first, three in the third and four in the fourth inning. Most of the blame for the loss rests with the defense, which had trouble picking off steals at second and catching fly balls in the outfield.

Matt Poth came in to replace Dahm in the sixth inning. Dan Flood knocked in the only run for the Wildcats while teammate Jeremy Bess went 2-for-3.

For the Red Wolves, Matt Geiger launched a massive home run over the left-field fence, as well as knocking in four RBIs. Dan Amador went 2-for-3, and Sean McDonald went 2-for-4.

‘Cats drop Red Wolves

The Mount Si varsity softball team defeated their Lower Valley rivals last week 8-5.

Heather Lewis recorded a triple during the game while teammate Lauren Davis had a double. Lewis also contributed three runs to the game and an RBI. Davis went 2-for-4 and also had an RBI.

Katelyn Schnaible went 2-for-4 for Cedarcrest, with teammate Chris Harder going 1-for-3 and scoring two runs.

Boys lose to Newport

The Cedarcrest Red Wolves track team lost to Newport last week 89-55. James Conrick won the 800-meter with a time of 2:01.5 and took second in the discus with a throw of 114 feet, 7 inches. Teammate Danny Abell won the 1,600-meter with a time of 4:38.2. Chris Lee came in second with a time of 4:55, with his brother, Brian Lee, coming in third at 5:11.1.

The team of Colin McDonnell, Abell, Conrick and Chris Martin won the 4×400 relay. Aaron O’Neal won the javelin with a throw of 175 feet, 1 inch, as well as the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 2 inches. Billy English won the 200-meter with a time of 23.9 seconds, and also took second in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 8 inches. Aaron Pedeferri took second in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet, 6 inches, while teammate Pat Conrick took second in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 1 1/2 inches

Girls fall to Newport

The Cedarcrest girls dropped a close meet to Newport last week 73-68. Jamie Brooks won the 100-meter in a time of 13.2 seconds. Teammate Erin Kendig took second with a time of 13.3.

In the 200-meter, Chloe Christman took second with a time of 29.4 seconds, and Kyle Fassler took third with a time of 30.8 seconds.

Sarah Gustat placed third in the 400-meter, while teammate Ashley Grant took first in the 800-meter with a time of 2:33.5. Kelly Ramirez won the 3,200-meter with a time of 11:44.6. Abby Kwiat won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.1 seconds, while teammate Morgan Jackson won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 53.4. Jackson also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles.

The team of Kending, Gustant, Kwiat and Brooks won the 4×100 relay in a time of 52.8 seconds. In the shot, Lauren Trocano won the event with a distance of 30 feet, 6 inches, and also placed second in the discus. Teammate Lindsay Peterson won the discus with a distance of 101 feet, 10 inches. Kwiat also won the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 8 inches. Erica Burch took third in the javelin with a distance of 97 feet, 7 inches. In the high jump, Maile Marshall took third with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches, and Katie Maurer took second in the pole vault with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches.

Islanders defeat ‘Cats

The Mercer Island Islanders were not kind to Mount Si last week in tennis play, defeating the hometown girls 7-2. In singles play Katie Bankson defeated the Islanders’ Leigh Monii 6-4, 6-1. In doubles play, the team of Annie Olson and Alice Ellison defeated F. Freeberg and Casey Mochel of the Islanders, 7-5, 6-2.

Bellevue swings by CHS

The Cedarcrest girls’ golf team fell to Bellevue last week 240-258. Bri Medley of Cedarcrest, took medalist honors with a score of 41 on the par-35 Carnation course. Michelle Whyman had a score of 51, Lindsey Schold a 54, Destiny Schnoid a 55 and Bianca Benfeman a 57.

Interlake tops Mount Si

The Mount Si girls’ golf team dropped a match to Interlake last week at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course 274-295.

Jessi Sanford led the Wildcat group with a score of 56. Rachel Keinath had a 58, Erica Jepson a 60, Stacy Schultz a 60 and Jessie Potter a 61.

‘Cats defeat Liberty

The Mount Si girls’ track team added a victory to their record last week by defeating Liberty 74-56. Mount Si recorded 10 first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes to dominate the event. Leading the effort were the two Ashleys, Wiegardt and Van Overen. Wiegardt took first in the long jump at 17 feet, and first in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, 1 inch.

Van Overen took first in the shot with a throw of 32 feet, 5 inches, and first in the discus with a throw of 91 feet, 6 inches. Gena Crock also put on a stellar performance with a first in the 100-meter at 12.67 seconds, and first in the 200-meter with a time of 26.24 seconds.

Kristen Berndt took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.3 seconds. Jessica Scalzo won the 1,600-meter with a time of 5:30.1. Melissa Warren took first in the 400-meter and Sheena Kern took first in the 3,200-meter with a time of 12:22.1. Maria Lynch won the high hump with a height of 4 feet, 4 inches, and the team of Berndt, Warren, Fletcher and Weigardt won the 4×200 relay.

Boys trounce Patriots

The Mount Si boys’ track team dominated Liberty last week, winning 91-49. Nick Verbon led the team with a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.44 seconds, as well as first in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 3 inches.

Jacob Waggoner took honors in the 1,600-meter with a time of 4:38, while the team of Dan Barry, Todd Barry, Eddie Horstman and Kai Miyamoto took first in the 4×100 relay. Crag Fanger continued the winning streak by taking first in the 800-meter, followed by the seasoned veteran, Payton Thompson, who took first in the 3,200-meter. Thompson recorded a time of 10:28.

Todd Barry took first in the shot with a distance of 41 feet, 4 inches, and Dan Haakenson continued his winning ways with a first in the discus at 157 feet, 1 inch.

Mils Bubeck took first in the triple jump for the ‘Cats with a distance of 36 feet, 11 inches. Brian Lewis added a first in the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches, and Phillip Mangano took first in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet.

JV destroys Liberty

Winning all six singles and doubles matches last week against Liberty, the Mount Si JV tennis team recorded a 12-0 win over the Patriots. Single winners were Katie Bankson 8-1, Katelyn Munson, 8-6, Julia Walker, 8-3, Jenae Stauch, 8-1, Cara Hanson, 8-2 and Lindsay Loeffler 8-0. Doubles winners were Jessica Lentgis and Lizzie Finnegan, 8-2, Neyssa Miller with Lauren Dunford, 8-4, Erin Hart with Martina Lunch, 8-4, Amy Fenton with Laurissa Everett, 8-1, Marian Lloyd with Cassy Gorton, 8-4 and Krista Fink with Bankson, 8-5.

Team loses to Skyline

The Mount Si JV girls tennis team did not fare well against Skyline last week, losing 4-5. Singles winners were Katie Bankson, 8-5, Katelyn Munson, 8-2, and Linsay Loeffler, 8-6. The team of Jessie Lentgis and Lizzie Finnegan was the only doubles team winners, 8-3.

‘C’ team avenges loss

The Mount Si “C” baseball team avenged its early season loss to Liberty last week by defeating them 16-5. The Wildcats put together 13 hits in four innings and defensively gave up only five runs on five hits with two errors.

Alex Van Overen pitched four solid innings with Jason Smith coming on in relief in the fifth inning. Offensively, Matty Secord had two hits, scoring two runs. Luke Landdeck had three hits and three runs with teammate Justin Lewis recording one hit and two runs.

Zack Kramer recorded two doubles with teammates Aaron Barquist and Evan Hillburn each getting a hit. Ben Kruse had three hits and scored two runs.
