Track teams fair well


The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh and eighth-grade grade girl’s track teams were victorious last week over Issaquah Middle School. In their first meet of the season hosted at Mount Si High School, the eighth-grade girls bested Issaquah by 60-47 while the seventh-grade pulled out a close finish of 53-50.

Highlights of the eighth grade meet were the spectacular performances by Jeannie Frantz and Whitney Chelgren. Frantz anchored the medley relay team running the 400 and making up a distance of 30 meters in the beginning to a lean for first place at the tape. Excellent race! Chelgren had three first place finishes in the 200, high jump 4’8″ and throwing the shot for the first time ever with a throw of 24’10”. Joan Krona threw a first place finish in the discus , Kelsey Meyers finished first in the 400 and Meghan Dunklee first in the hurdles.

Taking seconds were: Frantz in the 100, Vanessa Scalzo in the 800, Shannon Kelley in the 1600 and Marissa Stewart in the discus. Thirds came from Natsumi Asanuma in the 400, Rebecca Coffey in the 800, Dunklee in the 200 and long jump and Stewart in the shot put.

In the 7th grade meet, Jessica Marley finished first in both the 100 and 200, Jordan Tipton first in the long jump, Chelsea Eddings first in the hurdles, and Allyson Rosman first in the discus. Second place finishers were: Tova Garhart running a personal best in the 1600 with 6:23.5, Tipton in the 100 and 200 and Rosman in the shot. Thirds came from Collette Hatch in the 400 (running after being stung twice at the starting line by bees), and Linnie McElroy in the long jump.

The girls had a great start to their season. Their next meet is at home at MSHS on Wed. May 2nd beginning at 3:30PM.
