Basketball

Wildcats reschedule canceled games

The Mount Si Wildcats girls’ basketball team has scheduled two games to make up for the loss of two games in Idaho canceled due to the recent windstorm which ravaged the Valley. The two games are: Dec. 23 at Ingraham in Seattle and Jan. 31 at Holy Names, also in Seattle.


Mount Si pounds Totems

The Mount Si varsity girls basketball team got their season off to a great start with a 56-21 shellacking of the Sammamish Totems. The lady Wildcats physcally abused the Totems for four solid quarters to improve their league record to 1-0 and 2-1 overall.


JV defeats Totems

Behind the effort of Chelsie Eddings with 11 rebounds and 10 points, the Mount Si JV girls’ basketball team crushed the Sammamish Totems 52-28. Freshman Courtney Becker had seven rebounds and two assists while Alina Plavsky led the ‘Cats in scoring with 16. Rachel Campbell added five aggressive rebounds.


Gymnastics

‘Cats show individual effort

The Mount Si gymnastics team recently competed at Skyline High School, scoring 129.6 team points to the Spartans’ 161.9 and Liberty’s 141.8. Piper Sherbon led the effort for Mount Si taking second in the vault, second in the uneven bars, fifth on the beam and fifth on the floor for third overall with a combined score of 32.4. Merritt Kott placed eighth on the beam and ninth on the floor while teammate Megan Carlson placed eighth on the bars.


Wrestling

‘Cats thump Bellevue

The Mount Si varsity wrestling team handed Bellevue their first league loss of the season in a commanding way, with a 71-3 win. Mount Si won every match of the night except a heartbreaking overtime loss that Ben Steel suffered at the hands of Bellevue’s John Bryce, 9-7. Steel was wrestling at 145 pounds.

Other matches were, 103 pounds, Kyle Heath pinned Kosuke Sekiguchi at the 4:49 mark; 112 pounds, Joe Taklo pinned Nathan DeGioia at the 21 second mark; 119 pounds, Ryan Foucht won by forfeit; 125 pounds, Jordan Sypher won by forfeit; 130 pounds, Matt Haas defeated Amber Keech by technical fall; 135 pounds, Ryan Magnussen won by forfeit; 140 pounds, Josh Magnussen won by forfeit; 152 pounds, Pano Dreves pinned Jonah Crollard in 24 seconds; 160 pounds, Mac Donnell won by forfeit; 171 pounds, Seth Merritt won by forfeit; 189 pounds, Josh Friday won by forfeit; 215 pounds, no wrestlers from either team and at 275 pounds, Trevor Moore pinned Paco Ward at the 5:37 mark.
