With a growing team, the Mount Si girls golfers look to have a competitive year ahead.

COACH: Steve Botulinski returns for a second year to coach girls golf at Mount Si. He learned a lot from his first year and is organizing everything that needs to happen in the season and is working with the captains to make the year competitive.

“Last year was really good, it was my first year coaching with these girls so they helped me along early in the year,” Botulinski said. “We had a young team last year, only one senior, and we ended up doing really well at the league and district tournament, took third in both of those and sent two girls to state and they are both back this year. Bright prospects for this year.

STRENGTHS: Captain Caitlin Maralack said that the team is looking good this year due to a surge in growth.

“We have a lot more players that are interested which is really great to see that growth. Last year we were all really close, and we all were able to help each other out,” Maralack said.

NEEDS TO IMPROVE: Captain Bianca Backman explained that the mental game is one of the hardest aspects of golf and is something that always needs improving.

“Being on the course and knowing when to take a step back if it’s not going well. Being able to transfer that and make sure I play well on the rest of the holes instead of just dropping my head and going back at it.”

CAPTAINS: Bianca Backman and Caitlin Maralack. Maralack has committed to the University of Hartford to play division one golf in the NCAA, the first of any golfer in Mount Si girls golf.
