A young girls tennis team is led by three seniors this season.

COACH: James Gibowski has been coaching boys tennis for eight years and girls tennis for five.

STRENGTHS: The team is very focused and practiced and have been improving individually. There are only three seniors on the relatively young team, Gibowski said.

“We have a lot of girls back, even though we have a young team, we only have three seniors on varsity so I think our best year is ahead of us. My number one and number two, for singles are juniors. They got varsity letters as freshman so they have experience,” he said.

NEEDS TO IMPROVE: Gibowski said serving is what he wants the team to be working on. It can be one of the more difficult aspects of the game and improving your serving is a fast way to get better.

“We play teams where we are equal with them and maybe they beat us because they might be a little better servers, that’s always the fastest stroke to improve as a player,” Gibowski said. It sounds easy but its always difficult for high school players to have a consistent serve. Developing a serve is the quickest way to improve.”

GAMES TO WATCH: “Last year we did pretty well. I think we won three matches and we lost four-three to Issaquah, Inglemoor, and Liberty, it can’t be any closer than that. Hopefully we can go over the hump on that an win some of those,” Gibowski said.
