Valley players in tournament

Baseball players Mike Dahm, Marc Dahm and Aaron Svarthumle of Mount Si, and Matt Geiger and Nick Blanchard of Cedarcrest, have been selected to play together on a team in the 3A/4A all-state feeder games to be held at 4 and 6:30 p.m. May 31 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The players were chosen by the coaches in the 3A KingCo League.

The feeder games are part of the selection process used for the all-state games in June. Following the feeder games, league coaches will nominate 10 players to be included in the all-state series.

Students excel in SMS PE classes

Sixth-grade physical education classes at Snoqualmie Middle School recently completed their spring Presidential Fitness Testing. Danielle Carlson, Amy Ferree, Brian Johnson, Bruce Louviere and Jessica Oliver achieved the President’s Award by scoring an average of 85 percent in five categories testing strength, flexibility and endurance.

Some of the tests they took included curl-ups, shuttle run, sit and reach, pull-ups, flex arm hang and the mile run. Their scores are based on a national percentile with other students of the same age and gender.

Wildcats baseball players honored

Six of the Mount Si Wildcat baseball players were honored by the 3A KingCo League coaches. Aaron Svarthumle earned first-team all-league honors for first base, Marc Dahm earned first-team all-league honors for second base and Mike Dahm earned second-team, all-league honors for utility player. Earning honorable mention were Brent Clarke for outfield, Bryce Kaestner for pitcher and David LaBelle for catcher.

Jorgensen makes Sounders team

Lindsey Jorgensen, former Mount Si soccer player and current goalkeeper for the Washington State Cougars, is returning for a second season with the Seattle Sounders Select Women’s team this year. Jorgensen played goalkeeper last year and recorded five shutouts in seven games.

The select women play in the Western Conference of the 38 team W-1 League that is within the United Soccer League (USL.) They will play against other teams in the Northwest such as the Vancouver Breakers, Fort Collins Force, Mile High (Denver) Mustangs, Arizona (Phoenix) Heatwave, and the Texas (Dallas) Odyssey. The Sounders team is comprised of the top college and post-college players in the Northwest.

Last year the team played in a provisional Pacific Northwest Division of the W-League and were undefeated, finishing the season with a 8-0-3 record. They played with the Vancouver Lady Sixers, Spokane Chill and Portland Rain. The Sounders home field is at Issaquah High School, where they will play their home opener at 7 p.m. June 2 against Vancouver. Softball players win league awards

Six Mount Si softball players were honored this season by coaches in the 3A KingCo League. Dana Luizzo and Heather Lewis received first-team all-league honors for the outfield position, and Rachel McNaul received second-team all-league honors for playing first base. Those receiving honorable mention were Lauren Davis for short stop, Tabitha Albertson for second base and Laura Mijal for outfield.

Cedarcrest team members honored

Five Cedarcrest softball players received honorable mention by the 3A KingCo coaches this season. Receiving recognition were Danielle Brittain for pitcher, Whitney Short for catcher, Dorothy Westermann for second base, Stacie Lousberg for outfield and Katelyn Schnaible for third base.

Soccer players recognized

Cedarcrest soccer player Ben Frey was honored by the 3A KingCo League coaches for the position of defender. Teammates Tommy Felts, Trebor Gillie, Matt Mundy and Jimmy Vandanacker received honorable mentions.

Sign up for tennis lessons

The King County Park System will hold three 30-minute tennis lessons at two locations beginning in June. The first session will be held for ages 7 to 9 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and for ages 10 to 12 from 10:30 a.m. to noon on June 2, 9 and 16th at Si View Park, 400 S.E. Orchard Drive, North Bend, and at Lake Wilderness Park, 22500 S.E. 248th, Maple Valley.

The class is geared toward beginners and those who want to improve their game. Participants must bring their own racket, an unopened can of tennis balls and tennis shoes.

Register now for Fall City Fun Run

The Fall City Days Fun Run and Walk to be held at 9 a.m. June 16 in Fall City is now holding registration. The event will consist of a 5 and 10 kilometer run and a 5 kilometer walk that will begin and end at Oliver Taylor Quigley Park in Fall City. The race fee is $16 with a T-shirt and $10 without. Registration for kids 14 and under is $10 with a T-shirt and $5 without. Day-of-race fees increase to $20 with a T-shirt and $15 without for adults, and $12 and $7 for kids.

Show off your baseball skills

The Baseball Factory, the leading college-placement service for high-school baseball players, is conducting a one-day showcase for players on June 25 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. This event will draw local college coaches and professional scouts who will evaluate players that aspire to play at the next level.

Mount Si hosts b-ball camp

The Mount Si girls’ hoop camp is accepting applications for girls in grades 3 through 9. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 25-28 at the Mount Si High School gymnasium.

Players will learn skill development, team concepts and sportsmanship through daily games and competitions. Mount Si coaches and players will teach the camp.
