aron Svarthumle honored

Aaron Svarthumle, one of two seniors on the team, was the Pacific College Boxers’ anchor in the outfield as the starting center fielder. Svarthumle finished with a .322 average in 26 games, fifth best for the Boxers, including 29 hits, seven doubles, five home runs and six stolen bases. He finished with seven multi-hit games, led by a 3-for-5 effort against George Fox on April 24.

“Aaron was selected in probably one of the deepest positions in our league this season,” head coach Greg Bradley said. “To be picked first or second team is a big honor. Aaron was our hardest worker all year long and it paid off for him.”


Sno-Valley gymnasts compete

Several Sno-Valley Gymnastics girls competed in the Level 3 meet at Bellevue’s Gymnastics East recently. Nearly half of the 18-girl team (ages 5-10) earned medals in a field of more than 60 participating gymnasts from the Eastside. The top six scoring gymnasts in balance beam, vault, floor exercise and uneven parallel bars were awarded medals.

Sno-Valley gymnasts earned the following medals : In the age 7 and under group, Miah Batton took fifth place with an overall score of 33.55. In the age 8 group, Nikki Gmerek took first place with a combined score of 35.447; Jennifer Rogers took second place with an all-around score of 35.1, and teammate Jessica Fleming took fifth place with an all-around score of 34.75. In the age 9 group, Elyssa Roeder took fifth place with an all-around score of 35.3, and Carissa Castagno took seventh place with a combined score of 34.9. In the age 10 group, Lexi Swanson took third place with an all around score of 35.95.

Other girls competing were Natalie Chow (29.0), Mallory Fortier (31.475), Anna Smith (31.35), Alexandria Sjoboen (28.65), Elizabeth Holmes (32.3), Maggie Kenow (31.15), Savannah Morrison (33.45), Courtney Wolff (28.45), Paige Batton (30.1), Sydney Leonard (33.925) and Kira Jerome. The competitive team that began with a small group of four young ladies last summer has now grown to its present roster of 20. Coach Yoshi said, “The girls work very hard and give me 100 percent, which makes me work even harder for training them.”
