Local does well at meet

North Bend resident Georgia Reynolds did well in the Kay Canedy Seattle Sports Festival gymnastics meet recently in the Level 7 category. She scored a 34.625 in the all-around with individual scores of 8.85 on the vault, 9.425 on the bars, 7.85 on the beam and 8.50 on the floor.


Open House planned

The Sammamish Rowing Association will be holding an open house from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, at their facility located at 5022 W. Lake Sammamish Blvd., Redmond (seven-tenths of a mile south of the entrance to Marymoor Park).

If you ever wanted to try rowing, here’s your chance. No experience required and both adults and youth are welcome.

Come and tour the boathouse and talk with expert coaches. Take a short row with experienced rowers. Rowers can sign up for novice or advanced classes.


Mount Si grad finishes well

Dan Haakenson, a 2001 Mount Si graduate, finished fifth (15-35 meters – 50-4 1/2) at a recent track and field meet. He also placed seventh in the shot put (12.56 meters – 41-2 1/2). Haakenson is a senior at Pacific Lutheran University.


Reynolds on top

North Bend resident Georgia Reynolds took first in the bars with a score of 9.6 at the recent Pacific Edge gymnastics challenge. Reynolds competes for Gymnastics East. Reynolds took eighth in all-around with a score of 36.0, seventh in the vault with a score of 9.15 and ninth on the beam with a score of 8.8.


Tryout dates set for youth soccer

The Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association (SnVYSA) will be hosting tryouts for Cascade Select, SnVYSA’s advanced development program, on March 19 and 20 (and some mid-week dates). The tryouts are for ages U11 through U18 (born between Aug. 1, 1994, through July 31, 1988. There is no fee to participate in the tryouts.

DMW Martial Arts hosts safety party

A “Yello Dyno Safety Party” for children ages 3-5 will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at DMW Martial Arts and Fitness, 7710 Center Blvd. S.E., Snoqualmie. Children will learn how to spot “tricky people,” what to do if approached by someone in a car, how and what to yell to get help fast, the right “strangers” to turn to for help and much more.

The interactive, 45-minute class features award-winning music and Yello Duno, a lovable mascot. Parents will also learn tools to reinforce the safety rules. Cost is $8 per child. First Response photo IDs for children will also be available for purchase. All proceeds go to PACT for Kids, a nonprofit family support group.
