Former Wildcat helps Lutes rally twice

Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) rallied in both the first and third games to record a sweep of Lewis & Clark College in a Northwest Conference (NWC) volleyball match last week in Olson Auditorium. With the 30-24, 30-20 and 30-26 victory, the Lutes improved to 6-5 overall; 3-1 in the conference. Lewis & Clark slipped to 4-6 overall; 0-3 in NWC matches.

In the first game the Lutes went on a 5-0 run to erase a 21-19 deficit. PLU scored 11 of the final 14 points to claim the win. The Lutes took control early in the second game. Former Mount Si star Stephanie Turner had two kills and added two ace serves as PLU jumped out to a 10-4 lead. Lewis & Clark got no closer than five points the rest of the way. The Pioneers held a 20-14 lead in the third game when the Lutes rallied. Turner had four kills to spark a 5-2 run to bring PLU to within three at 22-19. Back-to-back errors by Lewis & Clark and another Turner kill put the Lutes up 27-25. She had two more kills as the Lutes closed out the game and the match.

Turner led the Lutes with 17 kills and four ace serves.


Wildcats to hold volleyball camp

The Mount Si Wildcat volleyball team will be holding a middle school volleyball camp Oct. 15 in the Mount Si High School gym. Players in the fifth through eighth-grade can register for $25 at the door. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. the day of the camp with the hours 9 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Bring a sack lunch, water bottle, kneepads and a desire to learn and have fun. Mount Si paw sweats will also be available for purchase. They are $25. This is a great opportunity to meet the high-school players and coaches on a 2:1 ratio. You will learn passing, setting, over hand serve, spiking, blocking and get a chance to play, play, and play.
