Mount Si downs Sammamish, falls to Liberty

The Lady Wildcats had a strong week on the volleyball court,

downing Sammamish and Liberty in turn, to put their record for the young

season at 3-1.

On Tuesday, Sept. 21, the `Cats overwhelmed Sammamish by

scores of 15-9, 15-6 and 15-13. Individual performances included

Stephanie Sales, 8 kills; Genevieve Weber, 6 kills and 6 digs; Sheneil Harstad, 6

digs; Kristin Everett, 3 kills and 28 assists; Heather Lewis, 9 kills, 2 aces and

2 digs; Kristin Roberts, 3 kills and 4 assists; and Betsy Bankson, 5 kills.

Wednesday night, Sept. 22, Mount Si hosted Liberty and came away

with another victory, dominating the Patriots by scores of 15-4, 15-10, 8-15

and 15-9. Sales was a wall, recording 7 kills, 3 blocks and 7 digs,

while Bankson – 4 kills – and Lewis – 14 kills and 15 digs – perforated the

opposition. Other standout performances were recorded by Harstad, 11

digs; and Weber, with 5 kills, 6 aces and 11 digs.

Monday evening, Sept. 27, the court `Cats dropped a tough one

to Newport by scores of 15-5, 15-5 and 15-11. Lewis recorded 4 kills and

8 digs in the effort; Bankson scored 4 kills and 2 aces; and Everett

finished play with 10 assists.

Armed with a 3-2 conference record, Mount Si hosted 1-2

Mercer Island this past Wednesday night.

Wolves spiked by Interlake, Skyline, down Sammamish

The Cedarcrest volleyball squad started the week at 2-0 but

stumbled, dropping consecutive matches to Interlake and Skyline. They

rebounded Monday night, Sept. 27, with a hard fought win over Sammamish.

In the Tuesday, Sept. 21, contest the Wolves fell to the Saints by

scores of 15-0, 15-8 and 15-11. Katie Power recorded 5 kills, 13 digs and 1

ace; Erin Townsend, 6 kills and 3 blocks; Julie Henry, 13 assists, 2 kills and

1 ace; and Rachael Barksdale got 7 digs.

The outcome was the same the following night, Sept. 22,

when Cedarcrest lost to Skyline by scores of 15-11, 6-15, 15-10 and 15-8. In

that contest Henry finished with 29 assists, 3 kills and 3 digs; Townsend, 8

kills; Power, 11 kills, 23 digs and 1 block; Lauren Peterson, 2 kills, 2 digs and

3 aces; Melanie Klevberg, 6 kills; Dorothy Westerman, 7 digs; and

Heidi Vandanacker, 2 kills and 6 digs.

The Wolves rebounded on Monday, Sept. 27, downing an

overmatched Sammamish squad by scores of 15-11, 15-3 and 15-3.

Henry wrapped the match with 19 assists, 2 kills and 4 aces; Townsend

recorded 9 kills and 2 blocks; Power scored 7 kills, 4 aces, 4 assists and 3

digs; Vandanacker notched 3 kills, 1 ace and 1 block; Kara Lawson contributed

3 kills; and Peterson stepped up with 3 aces.

With their record at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in KingCo 3A play, the

Red Wolves traveled to Issaquah this past Wednesday night.

This Saturday they’ll make a car and ferry trip to “The Rock” for a

non-league game with South Whidbey.

In the Sept. 15 game with Mount Si, Erin Townsend

recorded 15 kills and 3 blocks, while Katie Power – who set the game –

had 24 assists, 6 kills, 2 digs and 2 aces. Julie Henry, who was listed as a

player in the game, was actually in San Diego. The Valley Record regrets the

errors, and hopes Miss Henry enjoyed her trip to Mission Bay.
