Red Wolves continue rampage
The Cedarcrest soccer team continues to storm through the
KingCo 3A conference, downing two more rivals last week.
On Tuesday, Sept. 28, Cedarcrest thumped Sammamish 2-0. The
scoring was courtesy of junior Rennee Remedios, who took a pass off
Abby Kwait at the 38:47 mark, and senior Cassie Pepper, who punched
one through at 75:20 following a pass from Libbye Haddon. Erica Burch
and Jenny Harder split the goal time evenly.
“We did it again,” said a jubilant coach Kerry Gould following
the game, which put the Wolves at 4-1 in the league.
Last Thursday evening the Wolves continued the mop-up,
downing Issaquah 5-0. Dana Elwell kicked off the festivities – so to speak – at 8
minutes even, with a solo shot that got past Saints’ goalie Ann Vine. Ten
minutes later, at 18:40, Elwell scored her second of the night off a slick pass
from teammate Sarah Gustat.
The hits just kept on coming. Sarah Young split the net with a solo
shot at 23:57, and at 34:21 Elwell got the hat trick, scoring this time on a
pass from Pepper. Gustat notched her second point of the night at 63:03
with an assist from Remedios, ending the scoring onslaught.
Armed with a 5-1 record – good for second place, one point
behind Valley Division leader Liberty High School – the Wolves returned to
the field this past Tuesday night, Oct. 5, in a game with Bellevue. They play
at Newport Thursday night.
Mount Si drops two
The Wildcats came out on the short end of the tally last week,
dropping two hard-fought games to their rivals from Newport and Mercer Island.
In Tuesday night’s contest, the Lady Wildcats scored first on an
unassisted goal by Heather Breitenbach at the 10-minute mark. After
that bright start, it was all Knights, with the team from Newport scoring
five unanswered goals. The last went through the net at 78:00,
when Newport’s Julia Moritis took a pass off Tiffani Walker and rocketed it
past Mount Si goalkeeper Amber Schneider.
The `Cats made a go of it Thursday, Sept. 30, when they hosted
the Islanders. The Isles made the first two points, commencing with a
penalty kick by Renee Samms at 15:40. Mount Si clawed back, answering with a
goal by Angela Jones at 39:00 on a pass from Erin Vassar.
Unfortunately, that’s as close as the Wildcats got. The Islanders
responded with its third goal at the 47:00 mark, on another penalty kick.
The Mount Si JV and varsity hosted Issaquah this past
Tuesday night. Their next game is Thursday evening, Oct. 7, at Bellevue.
