Mount Si High School graduate Mike Rutledge finished fifth of 72 golfers from across the country in the Nature Valley Amateur tournament, held Saturday, Oct. 24, at the TPC Sawgrass course, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Playing in the tour flight, the 18-year-old Fall City resident fired a round of 81 on the Sawgrass course, one of the toughest courses in the game.

A part-time employee at his family’s Two Rivers Golf Course in Fall City, Rutledge paid to put himself through the tourney. He is attending Bellevue Community College on a golf scholarship and will play on the men’s team this spring.

Rutledge went to state three times for the Mount Si boys team.

Rutledge’s father, Doug, said the student golfer plans to return to the Nature Valley tourney in 2010,

“Michael’s going to be nothing but better next year,” Doug Rutledge said. “I can’t wait.”
