Conrick, Ramirez going to state championship

Cedarcrest’s two running aces, James Conrick and Kelly

Ramirez, successfully qualified for the Washington State cross country

championship in Thursday’s 3A Sea-King competition.

The event, held on a 3.1 mile course around Seattle’s Lower

Woodland Park, saw runners from every 3A-level program in the King County

area compete. Conrick placed seventh in the men’s event with a time of

16:22, while Ramirez took 20th in the women’s race, with a 20:37. The

individual event winners were Bellevue’s Ricky Brackett (16:00) and

Seattle Prep’s Megan Johnson (18:19). The top 30 winners in each category

proceed to state.

In the men’s team competition, the Red Wolves finished ninth with

244 points. The top six teams _ Seattle Prep, Lakeside, Bellevue,

Interlake and O’Dea _ will now move on to the state championship.

Newport, Mercer Island, Lakeside, Blanchet, Seattle Prep and

Mount Rainier qualified in the women’s race. The state championship is

scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
