DUVALL — After climbing into the stratosphere of the KingCo

3A baseball standings, the Cedarcrest Red Wolves have lost seven straight

league games and find themselves in the all-too-familiar position of scrambling

for the final conference playoff berth.

The Wolves’ record is now a full seven and one-half games behind

first-place and undefeated Skyline. The team’s record dropped to a

disappointing 3-10 after a 6-2 loss to last-place Interlake. The game was played

Friday at Tolt Field in Carnation.

Trailing by a single run in the top of the seventh behind the pitching

of senior Justin Garland, the home team had a defensive meltdown and

allowed the Saints to score three times in the visitor’s half of the final

inning. Catcher Matt Cain led the Red Wolves’ offense with a solo homer in the

fourth inning.

The second-place Issaquah Indians picked up their second win of the

season over Cedarcrest last Wednesday with a 9-3 win at Issaquah.

The Wolves jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning, but saw that

advantage disappear when the 11-1 Indians scored three times to even the score

in the home half of the second, then twice in the third and three more times

in the fourth to put the game away.

Coach Doug Hall pointed to the five errors committed by his squad

to explain how Issaquah was able to score so many and so often. T.J.

Upton relieved starter Luke Majerle in the second and then gave way to

Sean McDonald in the fourth.

Senior Marc Medley paced the Wolves by going two-for-three,

including an RBI double. Cain went one-for-two with an RBI double

as well.

Cedarcrest played its rematch with Mount Si in Snoqualmie on

Monday before heading into the home stretch of the season with games this week

at Tolt against Skyline and Mercer Island.

As of Friday, Cedarcrest was tied with Bellevue for seventh place in

the 10-team conference. Only the top six teams qualify for post-season

tournament play.
