The season may be over, but for two Mount Si volleyball players,

the awards are still coming in.

The KingCo 3A all-conference honors were formally released

last week, and two court `Cats made the list.

The players were junior Heather Lewis, named to the second team,

and senior Genevieve Weber, who received an honorable mention.

Lewis led her team in two statistical categories, recording 138 kills

over 46 games for a 3.00 average and 171 digs for a 3.72 average. Lewis

placed second in the league in digs behind Cedarcrest’s Katie Powers;

teammate Weber, who recorded 100 digs in 35 games for a 2.86, placed fifth in

the final stats.

When asked about her two all-stars, Mount Si coach Sherri

Brown was more than happy to sing their praises.

“She’s wonderful,” she said of Lewis. “She was our MVP this

year also. She was our leading hitter and our leading digger. She was the

only junior on the varsity, so she’s going to lead the pack next year.”

Concerning Weber, Brown stated the senior was “just a great kid.

She has worked hard and it’s really great she was honored.

“Genevieve’s not the biggest kid, not the tallest hitter or blocker,

but she’s a great all around player. She puts her heart and soul into

everything she does.”

Mount Si finished its 1999 campaign with a 7-6 record, good for

third place in the Valley Division, but subsequently fell to Newport in the

first round of the KingCo 3A playoffs. However, the selection of Lewis

and Weber for league honors put a bright conclusion to the Wildcats’ season.

“We had our ups and downs,” added Coach Brown. “We made it

to districts, which was a great accomplishment. Last year we missed

districts for the first time in eight years.

“It was not a rebuilding year, but a momentum year. Heather will the

only returning senior, but we have two sophomores _ Kristen Everett

and Stephanie Sales _ with two years experience on the varsity. That’s a

great thing to build with for next year.”
