    Carnation’s annual Fourth of July celebration will get off to a running start with the Run for the Pies 5K run/walk through downtown, a fun and unique event that gets bigger and better every year.

    The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4.

    Men and women, boys and girls in eight age categories will have a chance to win a unique prize: a fresh pie from Remlinger Farms.

    Snoquamie Valley Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Snoqualmie Valley Classic Golf Tournament is 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course in Fall City.

    Cost is $99. Proceeds benefit the Chamber of Commerce to support their work in building a strong local economy.

    Snoquamie Valley Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Snoqualmie Valley Classic Golf Tournament is 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course in Fall City.

    The tournament is a four-player scramble. Golfers can check in beginning at 12:30 p.m., and play starts at 2 p.m. Singles and doubles are welcome, as they will be grouped into foursomes. The cost for individual players is $99, which includes green fee, a cart, dinner, and a raffle ticket.

    It sounds cliché, but the art of the javelin throw really does run in the Stevens family of Fall City. So does the art of breaking records.

    The story starts back in the 1980s, when dad Jim Stevens set the Mount Si High School record for unlimited-flight javelin with a 199-foot throw.

    Jim took up the sport as a high school junior, after a friend of the family involved in the University of Washington track program noticed his long arms. He threw for two years, taking fifth and then second at state, and held the Mount Si school record.

    Mount Si had one state champion and more than a dozen state track competitors take the podium in their events at the track and field championships in Tacoma.

    The Mount Si boys track team took seventh at the WIAA state track and field championships, held at Mount Tahoma Stadium May 23, 24 and 25. The Wildcat girls finished 34th as a team.

    Mei-Miao Su Chang hit a hole-in-one on Sunday, May 5, at the Cascade Golf Course in North Bend. She used a driver on the 125-yard sixth hole.

    Steve Funk got a hole in one on Tuesday, May 15, at the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge 17th hole, a 175-yard shot.

    Lumberjack athlete David Moses headed to U.S. championships

    Snoqualmie’s own David Moses will travel across the country starting Monday to compete in the Stihl Timbersports U.S. Championship.

    The national lumberjack sports competition is June 7 through 9, part of the Great Smoky Mountain Lumberjack Feud in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. The competition will be streamed live online at stihltimbersports.us and is being filmed by Outdoor Channel cameras to air this summer.

    Blake Herman, a six-foot-one, 210-pound starting defensive end and offensive guard for the Wildcats last season, is on board for college play.

    Herman committed to play for Wheaton Thunder this coming fall. Wheaton College is a perennial Midwest Division-3 powerhouse known for their academics. Off the gridiron, Herman intends to concentrate on mathematics.
