Mount Si Wrestlers place eighth at tournament

Over the weekend, Mount Si High School sent its wrestling squad to Centralia for a tournament. Despite being short some key team members, the Wildcats placed eighth in the 20-plus team event and seven varsity wrestlers scored for the day.

Over the weekend, Mount Si High School sent its wrestling squad to Centralia for a tournament. Despite being short some key team members, the Wildcats placed eighth in the 20-plus team event and seven varsity wrestlers scored for the day.

Brennan Dalgleish, wrestling at 220 pounds, took second place in the tournament. Taking third place were: Duncan Harrison, 138; Mason Marenco, 160; and Kurtis Olson, 170. Other varsity wrestlers to place included Kalin Riley, 106; Conor Holt, 145 and Corey Seaman, 182.

Several junior varsity wrestlers also competed and placed. David Rice, 182, took second place and Shane Moses, 145 and Tomas Perez, 182 both took third.

Kinsey Steskal took first place in the girls wrestling competition at 115.

Earlier in the week, the team competed against Redmond and Issaquah in a dual at Issaquah. The team won over Redmond, 40 to 36, but lost to Issaquah, 24 to 39.

In the Redmond match, Conor Holt, 145, won his match with Nadia Medivinsky, 9-1 in a major decision and Jack Hamerly, 152, pinned Phillip Palm. Kurtis Olson, 170, also won with a pin, defeating Alex Folta. Spencer Marenco, 132, defeated Jeremy Hernandez in an 8-2 decision and Duncan Harrison, 138, also won by a decision, 6-0. Mason Marenco, 160, Brennan Dalgleish, 220, and Andrew Harris, 285, all won by forfeit. Three wrestlers, Luke Kennedy, 182, Nick Kaneka, 195 and Jobe Zuniga, 113, all lost by pins.

Against Issaquah, M. Marenco, 160, won by a pin, as did A. Harris, 285. K. Olson, 170, won in a 7-6 decision; B. Dalgleish, 220, won his match, 10-3; and C. Holt, 145, won 11-9. S. Marenco, 132, won in his match, too.

Losses included J. Hamerly, 152, in a 5-3 decision and D. Harrison, 138, in an overtime 6-4 decision. C. Seaman, 182, D. Rice, 195 and Kalin Riley, 113, all lost by pins.
