Cedarcrest boys basketball team begins season 2-2

Cedarcrest’s boys basketball team has an overall record of 2-2 as of a Dec. 12 loss to Squalicum, 45 to 86.

Cedarcrest’s boys basketball team has an overall record of 2-2 as of a Dec. 12 loss to Squalicum, 45 to 86.

The Red Wolves racked up a big win Dec. 11 win over Lakewood, outscoring the Cougars in all four quarters for a final score of 61 to 38 at Lakewood.

Senior and team captain Robert Cha led the team scoring with 22 points, which included two buckets from the three-point line. Nik Reierson was next with 11, including a three-pointer. Matt Sanders and Brayden Stauffer scored six each and Jake Kirschenmann had five. Also scoring for the Red Wolves were Kyle Lupo, four, Cameron Hammontree, three, and Nathan McBride, two.

Earlier in the week, Cedarcrest was at Shorecrest, where the team scored another win, 71 to 65. Cha and Reierson again led the scoring, with 21 and 16 points respectively. Six of Cha’s goals and two of Reierson’s came from the three-point line. Kirschenmann scored 14 and pulled down an impressive 16 rebounds during the game, as well as making two shots from three-point range. Stauffer made 10 points, including two from three-point range, Darrington and McBride had four points each and Hammontree scored two.

The season began with a loss to Hazen, 55 to 59 on Dec. 1.
