Mount Si leads conference, but hard work is still ahead

The Mount Si Wildcats head into this week at the top of their conference, propelled by two shutout victories over Inglemoor and Issaquah, plus a five-homer game against Redmond, played April 18 at Hartman Park.

Gavin Gorrell, Jimmy Boyce, Justin Lutz, Reid Lutz and Ben Keller each hit a home run in the game, which still turned out to be a close one.

“The bats were hot,” said Mount Si baseball coach Zach Habben, “but hanging on to win the game was the biggest highlight. No lead is safe at Hartman.”

The Wildcats scored in the first, second and seventh innings to clinch the 9-7 win over Redmond, then went on to shut out Inglemoor, 2-0 on Wednesday, April 20, with single runs in the first and sixth innings. Last Friday, the team traveled to Issaquah for another conference match. With their 4-0 win Friday, the team has secured a firm hold on first place for the conference.

“The group of guys are very close and have all been pulling for each other all year long,” said Habben, and there are still a couple of weeks left of the regular season, so “the hard work never stops… They have been coming out and working hard every day, which has reflected in the games, which is great to see.”

Mount Si hosts Bothell tonight at Mount Si Stadium. Game time is 4 p.m.
