Mount Si girls soccer season preview

Wildcats made their second straight state tournament for the first time since ‘05-‘06.

In a crowded KingCo Crown division, the Mount Si High School girls soccer team looks to follow up a solid 2024 season with an even better one in 2025. The Wildcats finished fifth, made the District 2 tournament and advanced to the state tournament in the final possible position.

In the state tournament, Mount Si was the No. 14 seed and took on No. 3 Sumner in the opening round. The Wildcats competed with Sumner, but ultimately fell in the first round by a score of 2-1 on Nov. 13 at Sumner High School.

Soccer success in the postseason has been hard to come by for the Wildcats. Back in 2023, the Wildcats made the state tournament and defeated Kentridge. The 2024 season was the first time in school history since 2005-2006 for the team to make the tournament in back-to-back seasons. Mount Si girls soccer in general has made the state tournament in consecutive years just three times in the school history with the first time coming in 1994-1995.

It could be a historical year, as the Wildcats have never made the state tournament three times in a row.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Jenkins was given the Golden Gloves and helped Mount Si to a .7 average goals against rating during KingCo play, the lowest in the entire KingCo Crown.

There was a youth movement on the field for Head Coach Kate Deines ,who graduated just three seniors from last year’s roster. Forward Alexa Newman was named first team KingCo Crown, and as just a sophomore made a name for herself for the Wildcats. Fellow sophomore Makenna Holub was also named first team all KingCo as a defender. Holub and Meagan Ulrich, who was named to the second team, held down the defensive side of the field and also played a big part in the .7 average goals allowed in KingCo play.

Along with Newman, Holub and Ulrich, four other Wildcats were named honorable mentions based on their 2024 performances — and every single one is back this season. Junior Natalie Gram, sophomore Conaleigh Holub, sophomore Olivia Robinson and now junior Reese Stanley were the four honorable mentions for the Wildcats.

This season, Mount Si opened up with an 8-0 win against Graham-Kapowsin and a 1-0 win vs. Eastside Catholic at home for their first two games of their 2025 campaign. The Wildcats then go on the road for three straight non-league games against Glacier Peak (5-1 win) on Sept. 9, then Cedarcrest on Sept. 11 (3-0 win) before a rematch against Sumner on Sept. 13. Mount Si opens up the league schedule with Bellevue at home on Sept. 18 before traveling to Issaquah to take on the Eagles, who were semifinalists in last year’s state tournament.
