Senior post Nicci Landdeck scored a game-high 25 points and sophomore guard Whitney Beyerlin scored 16, including four three-pointers in the first half, as the Mount Si Wildcats girls’ basketball team opened its season with a convincing 58-32 rout of the Stadium Tigers from Tacoma last Saturday night in a nonleague contest at Mount Si High School. Junior forward Hana Rychlinski scored seven points to lead Stadium, a 4A Narrows League school.

Defense and smart play were key to the Wilcats’ success and Mount Si coach Dirk Hansen says to expect more of that this season.

“We wanted to come out tonight and establish our defensive tradition. And I think we did that,” Hansen said. “We just got out and we hustled even though we were really tired with the first game, we still got out there and hustled and we beat them with our defense hard. It wasn’t mistake free, but I really liked the way we reacted to the mistakes that we did make tonight and we came back with a lot of energy and a lot of heart, and we should have a good year.” said Hansen.
