Mount Si girls look to climb to top of Kingco conference

After a 9-11 finish that saw the Wildcats lose a controversial season-ending playoff game to Newport in 2001-2002, the Mount Si girls’ basketball team is looking to rebound this year. And if their summer and fall league performances are any indication, the Wildcats are ready to leave their mark on the Kingco conference.

“I don’t want to make any predictions – we’re going to take first, we’re going to take second – I don’t want to do that,” said coach Dirk Hansen. “I want to play well every night. And by playing well and playing hard, that will in itself take care of the win column.”

Those two fundamentals, playing well and playing hard, are key to the Wildcats’ success under Hansen, now in his fifth year at Mount Si.

Hansen sees this job as more than just being a basketball coach. He also wants to teach values that will hopefully be with these players long after they graduate from Mount Si.
