Pioneer 12, Chief Kanim 7
The Chief Kanim 8th grade football team traveled to Pioneer
on Wednesday, Sept. 29. It was a hard- fought game that saw the home
team score the first touchdown, but the Hawks managed to stop the
extra point. The Chief Kanim gridders then drove down the field, with Curtis
Dorr taking it across the line for the game-tying score. Dorr also ran in the
extra point, giving the Hawks a 7-6 half-time lead. Pioneer scored again in
the third period while the Hawks failed to put any more points on the board,
giving the home team the 12-7 victory.
Dorr finished with 64 yards on 16 carries, with one touchdown and
an extra point. Defensive standouts for the Hawks included Mike Lindor
and Gary Conner, who led the team with eight tackles each; Phil Collins,
seven tackles; and Brad Trombley and Eric McCammon, six tackles.
The Hawks will continue to work on their tackling as they prepare
to host Lochburn next week.
8th Grade Volleyball
Snoqualmie sweeps Tolt,
Beaver Lake
On Monday, Sept. 27 and by scores of 15-4, 15-6, the 8th
grade Lady Eagles beat the squad from Tolt Middle School, continuing their
dominance from last year. The powerful serves of Jaclyn Boals and the
accurate serving of Zoe Nelson spurred them on.
Wednesday night, the Lady Eagles won a hard-fought game with
Beaver Lake in front of an excited crowd of family and friends by scores of
16-14 and 15-11.
Kristen Berndt provided strong leadership, while Chandra Rappin
and Rebecca Perretti both served well to help win the first game. In the
second contest, Amy Keogh came off the bench to provide the spark.
Chief Kanim has a nail-biter
with Tolt
In their game with the T’Birds, the Chief Kanim eighth-graders
dropped the first game 15-13, took the second 16-14, and lost the third by a score
of 18-16.
“It was a nail-biter, the entire match,” said Lady Hawks’
volleyball coach Joyce Kjorsvik. “The 8th
graders played the best we’ve ever seen, just awesome play. The ladies did
a really nice job.”
7th Grade Volleyball
Snoqualmie falls to Tolt,
dispatches Beaver Lake
First-game jitters and not serving to their potential caused the 7th
grade volleyball players from Snoqualmie Middle School to suffer their first
loss on Monday, Sept. 27, to Tolt Middle School. The Eagles dropped the
first two games 15-3 and 15-7, but fortunately, found their rhythm to take
the third game 15-13.
The top offensive players for the Eagles were Maggie Kujath
and Samantha Baldwin. On defense, Kayla Jayne used her hops to stuff a few
back over the net.
SMS’s 7th grade volleyball team rebounded on Wednesday, Sept.
29, beating Beaver Lake 15-4, 15-4.
Whitney Chelgren slammed over serves, scoring 10 points in a
row, while Kayla Jayne kept up the offensive strike by scoring 15 points in
the two games. Whitney Beyerlin, Stephanie Strakele,
Rachelle Kaminski, Mallory Horsch, and Kacee Crossan were other key
contributors in the team victory.
Chief Kanim drops close one
to Tolt
The Lady Hawks’ varsity 7th-grade team took on Tolt
Wednesday, Sept. 29, in an exciting match. Tolt eventually prevailed by scores of
15-8, 15-11 and 12-15.
Emily White held the Chief Kanim squad together with her
aggressive offensive and defensive playing. Natalie Sinclair, Emilie Aalatonen
and Randall Hawk assisted in playing an excellent game of volleyball.
`Battle of the Birds’
Wednesday, Oct. 6
Wednesday, Oct. 6, Snoqualmie Middle School played host to
Chief Kanim in the “Battle of the
Birds” volleyball contest at Mount Si High School.
This traditional contest between the Hawks and the Eagles began at
5 p.m. with the 7th varsity and JV matches, followed by the 8th
varsity game.
Admission was charged for this event: adults and high school
students, $2; middle school students without ASB and elementary students,
$1; middle schools students with ASB and children under six, free. There was
a concession stand.
