Eagles bounce Chargers
The Snoqualmie Middle School eighth-grade varsity boys’ basketball team rolled out another win against a stubborn Maywood team, eventually earning a 63-45 victory to go 2-0. Zander Nelson sliced and diced through the lanes for soft touches off the glass, powering the Eagles with 16 first-half points. The determined Chargers remained close at the end of two quarters, 28-24.
The Eagles came out with some fire and energy to open the second half. Behind Zac Pearlstein’s sweeps off the boards and Jordin Kinnune’s, Trey Botten’s and Brett Duncan’s aggressive “in-your-face” defense, the Chargers began to fold under the constant Eagle pressure. Scoring was coming fast and furious with most of the Eagles contributing key buckets. Nelson kept up his torrid pace with 14 second-half points, followed closely by the hot hand, both inside and out, of Kinnune, who collected 13 total points. Dillon Shain, Botten, Pearlstein and Code Blair each contributed four points, while Nick Proudfoot and Justin Downer added another couple buckets as eight Eagles put points on the scoreboard. Nelson led all scorers with 30 points.
Hawks defeat Tolt
The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Tolt last week 69-16. The Hawks controlled the boards and played aggressive defense to defeat the Thunderbirds. Tanner Riley led the effort with 18 points and six rebounds. Lucas Zupan followed with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Danny Cavanaugh added nine points and five assists; Drew Handy had seven points; Rosco Castagno had seven points; Aaron Moetului had three points and seven rebounds and Edgar Tarp had two points and four rebounds.
Tolt falls to Hawks
The Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade varsity boys’ basketball team dropped Tolt 38-24 last week. The Hawks started off slow but came out with a hunger and fire to start the third quarter and never looked back. Cooper Helm led the effort with 14 points while teammate Ian Ilgenfritz added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Farmer added eight points and eight rebounds; Ryan Hermand had five points and seven rebounds; and Dan Scott had a point and three rebounds.
