A look at sports from the Valley's Middle Schools.

Chief Kanim leads Keithley

The Chief Kanim eighth-grade varsity football team beat Keithley Middle School last Wednesday by a score of 16-0. After the Hawks received the kickoff, Stu Trombley broke free for a 53-yard run around the left side for a touchdown.

Trombley also kicked the extra point to give CKMS the lead. For the rest of the quarter, the Hawk defense completely shut down Keithley’s offensive attack.

In the fourth quarter, Trombley again fought his way through the Hawk defense and ran 35 yards for another touchdown. The Hawks threatened late in the game as Greg Beckmann ran the ball down to the Keithley 20-yard line, but an interception ended the drive and the clock ran out.

Andrew Haskins and Tim Lewis recovered fumbles for Chief Kanim and Dan Lee intercepted a Keithley pass. Eric Forslin and Tylor Littlejohn shined on defense.

Snoqualmie beats Maywood

The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh-grade varsity volleyball team had a great opening match against Maywood last Tuesday and won the first game through the masterful serving of Paige Alexander, Xandy Evans, Kayla Grant, Amanda Magnussen, Kelsey Parsons, and Katie Smart. Smart had three strong returns to difficult serves that earned SMS the serve. Kelsey Parsons and Paige Alexander showed great passing in several volleys.

The second game was filled with great plays from Anika Granillo, Ileaha Lewis, Nikki Alskog, and Ashley Bowers. As team captain, Amanda Magnussen kept the players upbeat and positive.

Eagles win first game

The Snoqualmie Eagles eighth-grade varsity football team opened its season with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Ford Middle School.

With Jacob Wirth and Brad Lear controlling the line of scrimmage, and Blake Kinghorn and Zach Sumner stuffing the outside runs, the Eagles met every challenge by Ford’s offense.

As the first half clock ran down, Kyle Meuli led an offensive drive which culminated with Cody Hyatt breaking through defenders and down the sideline for a 45-yard touchdown run.

The extra point kicked in by Beau Davis proved to be the difference in the Eagles’ opening season win.

Justice Manson scored on a punt return for the touchdown. The team played great defensively, holding them to no touchdowns.
