DUVALL — The Red Wolves’ girls play the role of poor hosts

by knocking down their guests and never letting them off the floor in a

40-18 rout over Highline last Saturday afternoon.

The win was the second of the season for coach Marc Hillestad’s

squad. The Lady Wolves lost two Kingco conference matchups earlier in

the week and are still looking for their first conference win of the year.

Senior forward Erin Townsend led Cedarcrest with 11 points, but it

was not enough Friday night as Cedarcrest was outscored 16-7 in the fourth

quarter and lost a heartbreaker to Sammamish, 35-39 on the

Bellevue campus.

The Totems jumped out to a five-point lead in the first quarter, but

the visiting Red Wolves roared back with double-digits in the second and

third quarters to take a four-point lead going into the final eight minutes of

play. Junior Lindsay Peterson chipped in with nine points from her position

on the front line. No other Cedarcrest players scored more than four points.

The loss to Sammamish was the Red Wolves’ second KingCo

setback of the week. Last Tuesday the team from Duvall wound up on the

short end of a 52-36 score on the road against Skyline.

Peterson led the visiting team with 11 points. Guard Sarah Gustat

added seven points to the Cedarcrest cause, while her backcourt

mate—senior Heather Sherfey—made her

presence known with eight points.

The Red Wolves’ varsity squad leaves Monday for a four-day trip

to Southern California, while the junior varsity squad will host a

four-team holiday tournament at Cedarcrest on the 28th and 29th of the month.

KingCo league action resumes Jan. 5 with a varsity home

game against the Patriots from Liberty High in Renton.
