Coach Marc Hillestad’s quest for his team to qualify for the KingCo

3A playoffs this season slipped a little further out of his grasp last week

as the Red Wolves dropped a pair of conference match-ups.

The Cedarcrest girls lost to Mercer Island on Friday night 63-45,

after dropping a clash with Bellevue earlier in the week, 50-22. The pair

of losses backed the Cedarcrest team into a corner with only four games

remaining against league opponents.

Junior Lindsay Peterson scored an even dozen points and

Melanie Klevberg chipped in with 10 as the Red Wolves hung close for three

quarters against the Islanders before getting blown out by 15 points in the

final eight minutes. The Wolves actually led by a point after the first

quarter against Mercer Island.

Senior Heather Sherfey lead the squad with six points and junior

Sarah Gustat added five as the Red Wolves searched for an offense

against the double-teaming defense of Bellevue. Cedarcrest never

scored more than seven points in a quarter as Bellevue had scoring help from

nine players.

KingCo play continued this week when the Red Wolves

hosted Sammamish on Wednesday in a key league match-up. Friday night

the Wolves travel to Renton to take on Liberty.

The season ends with rematches against Mount Si and Interlake

next week.
