Where were those surveys?

Letter to the Editor.

I write after reading last week’s article on the parks up in Snoqualmie Ridge. The parks are indeed wonderful and are a great benefit for all residents of Snoqualmie to enjoy. I was taken aback, however, when I read the comment by Jeff Mumma regarding the possible community center, and that three surveys had been sent to residents, and that the overwhelming conclusion was that residents did not want a pool?

I can tell you without a doubt that I definitely want a pool. In fact, in the one (not three) surveys I received, even though there was no space for it, I wrote in that I would only be willing to contribute personal monies if the plan included a pool. I also know from talking to many neighbors that they also put this in their survey. In a large master-planned community, where families with children are everywhere, I can say that I have no reason for a multiuse facility that includes lots of meeting rooms. Yes, an aerobics and weight room would be great, but first on my list is a pool. A pool where the residents of Snoqualmie can come with their families and spend the day, pack a lunch, and enjoy the water.

I have had numerous discussions with several residents, and each resident stated that they received only one survey, so when were the other two conducted? If people did not write in the option of funding for a pool, since it was not available for comment otherwise, were they deemed to not want a pool? How did the city come to this overwhelming conclusion about residents not wanting a pool in their community center? I believe that this is a case of miscommunication, at the very least.

I think the city would find more than enough residents willing to contribute money to the community center, if the project includes a pool. I do know that I will not contribute if it does not. I think the city should send out a survey regarding this issue, one that addresses specifically the pool issue and that actually gets to the homeowners for comment. This should be done before there is any decision on building the community center and city tax dollars are committed to it.
