A look at life in Snoqualmie through the eyes of a local.

What great fall weather we are having. It always strikes me weird

as having to scrape ice off the windshield in the morning and then having

a sunny afternoon. The cold weather is causing the birds to eat Mom and I

out of house and home. There is one stellar jay I like in particular. He is

very loud and opinionated and prefers the whole pile of seed all to himself.

And if you happen to interrupt him by daring to walk through your yard

he wastes no time in scolding you. I have decided he has to be a male stellar

jay because I’m sure the females are of a more mellow persuasion.

As I live, eat and breathe fund raising for the Leukemia Society, I am

also increasing my walking distance and trying very hard to work on

speed. Ideally we should be able to do a 15 minute mile and I vary between 15

and 17 minute miles. We are still meeting at gas works park in Seattle for

our Saturday group training and have some great clinics on various

marathon subjects before each workout. I think it’s great how so many

people of different backgrounds can get together for a cause like this and

become friendly with each other so fast. Everyone is really good about

giving each other the encouragement we so desperately need and will be

needing lots more of it as those 26 mile walks approach.

Sparky has his little orange nose out of joint. He is a firm believer

in being the center of my universe and is finding himself at home alone

more often than he cares for. After walking 6 miles after work the other night

he decided I owed him to bend over and pet him while he ate for what

seemed like forever. I wanted to drink a gallon of water and get out of my

sweaty clothes but he would not allow that.

Here are some words to live by: I am thankful for a mess to clean after

a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends, thankful for

the taxes I pay because it means I am employed, thankful for the clothes

that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat! This is a great

way to approach life when we find ourselves frustrated with the world.

When I find myself grumbling about dishes to do, I think about homeless

people that would love to have had a meal to cook and a roof over their head

and dishes to do.

Thanksgiving isn’t all that far away so here is a pie to prepare

that might go great with that turkey dinner: Cranberry walnut cheesecake

pie. Pour 1 1/4 c. cold milk into large bowl, add 2 pkgs(4 serving size)

cheesecake instant pudding mix and 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel. Beat with a whisk

1 minute and gently stir in 1/2 of a 8 oz. tub of cool whip topping. Spread

1/2 of this mixture on bottom of a 6 oz. graham cracker pie crust, spread

1/2 of a 16 oz. can whole berry cranberry sauce over this, sprinkle with 1/4

cup chopped walnuts. Top all of this with the remaining pudding mixture

and refrigerate 4 hours or until set. Garnish with the remaining whipped

topping and 1/4 c. walnuts and serve with the remaining cranberry sauce.

When a cat named mousam received a notice to report for jury

duty, the owner notified the court clerk that their potential juror was a cat, so

he was disqualified. But not because he was a cat, but because he

couldn’t speak English!

I cannot believe I am still being plagued by yellow jackets.

Apparently one was hibernating somewhere near where we have the bird seed cause

as I was doing my good deed for the day feeding the birds I felt a burning

and looked down and had been stung by a yellow jacket. This has definitely

been my year for stings-a total of 8!

Don’t forget to get out there and spook your neighbors and have

lots of candy for the kids that will be trick or treating!
