Loss of art discouraging

Letter to the Editor

It was with great disappointment that I realized that not only had another small business (Jeani’s Sunshine Cafe) bit the dust in North Bend, but that a local treasure and fabulous piece of art had been unceremoniously whitewashed!

That funny little wedge-shaped building was one of North Bend’s best attributes – unique and eye catching, a far cry from the failed “Alpine” theme (thank God).

Having no idea of the circumstances that caused the building to be whited-out, so to speak, I can only say that it is a shame and a loss to the city that the building could not retain that fabulous artwork.

My heart goes out to the proprietors – whatever happened, it could not have been pleasant and I am sad to see them go. I am sure there are many other people who drive through town who find this loss of art and local small business as discouraging as I do.
