Sign stealing an attempt to silence

Letter to the Editor

As the candidates spar their final rounds in this election season, I can no longer remain silent on the ugly current of Gestapo-like tactics of intimidation that have been adopted by a few on the left.

Apparently uncomfortable with their candidate and unable to make their case in the arena of ideas, they have resorted to everything from burglary of campaign offices around the country to stealing or destroying election signs right here in our Valley. It seems that the left values free speech only when they agree with what is being said (or, perhaps, when it involves pornography).

Elections are contentious times and, overall, that’s a good thing. People have strongly held ideas and they are trying to influence others to join them. However, when this zeal crosses the line to hatred, vandalism and crime, then it has gone too far and we as a society need to say, “Enough.”

Regardless of their political views, I hope those throughout the Valley will join me in condemning these base and petty attempts to silence and bully.

To those behind these acts, if you want to argue with someone, argue with me. Otherwise, stay out of my yard and keep your hands off my stuff!
