Editorial on target

Letter to the Editor

Last week’s editorial by Jim McKiernan regarding the city of North Bend lacking direction, etc., was on target.

As with past administrations and the current one, they don’t want citizen commission input and if they could, would eliminate them. They have a couple of department heads that are not qualified and, of greater concern, they don’t care about the citizens they are supposed to be working for. The mayor is aware of this and chooses not to act.

During the 16 years I served as fire chief, I saw unqualified department administrators. Some had just been fired from other cities and were hired at North Bend, and those who were replaced here went on to other cities, so the revolving door continued.

The sad part is that they need direction from local commissions/citizens to understand the desires of the community. In some cases, there are hidden agendas; such as the expanded flood plain and the residents who suffer the consequences.

When I hear employees state that they have to read the newspaper to find out what is going on within the city, that tells me how bad things are.

Is it approaching time for a vote of no confidence?
