The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a fatal hit and run collision on Interstate 90.
The car vs. pedestrian collision was reported about 12:20 p.m. June 19 on westbound I-90 between State Route 18 and the Preston exit, according to the state patrol.
Callers reported that a black Toyota Sequoia had struck the pedestrian, who had been trying to cross the freeway after their red vehicle became disabled on the right shoulder, according to the state patrol. The suspect in the Toyota had been driving on the left shoulder when the pedestrian was hit, and ultimately did not survive, according to the state patrol. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the victim as Brian Russell Overland, 66, of Issaquah.
The Toyota also became disabled near the Preston exit on the freeway following the collision. The driver, a 42-year-old Sammamish man, was arrested after an attempted carjacking and altercation with troopers, according to state patrol. According to King County Jail roster, the suspect has not been charged yet, but he is under investigation for vehicular homicide, felony hit and run, robbery and assault. He has since been released from jail.
