Volunteers needed for Railroad Days

Snoqualmie’s summer festival needs the community’s help to be a success.

Railroad Days, now under new management by the Northwest Railway Museum, needs volunteers for a variety of duties.

“We need people to pull together, come out and volunteer,” said Sue Van Gerpen, Railroad Days chief organizer and marketing manager for the museum.

Railroad Days is the signature event for Snoqualmie, and needs to include the entire community, she said.

“Like a lot of things in life, you get out what you put into it,” Van Gerpen said. “For a lot of people, they’d rather be doing things and enjoying the festival. It’s their chance to get in on the ground floor and be part of it.”

Van Gerpen needs volunteers for a variety of tasks‚ managing and assisting in the vendor areas, set up and clean-up at the festival, staffing the children’s Field of Fun, putting up posters and helping get the word out.

One important job needs someone to ensure that all vendors can take a break on the day of the event, Saturday, Aug. 22.

“That’s a really nice thing to do,” Van Gerpen said. “The vendors really appreciate it. They’ll remember, and they’ll come back.”

Railroad Days volunteers meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Snoqualmie Police Station, 34825 S.E. Douglas St. Volunteers are treated to dessert and a ride to Snoqualmie Falls on the Snoqualmie Valley Historic Railway on Thursday, Aug. 20.
