SEATTLE – The proposed Treemont development’s day of reckoning was postponed for the second time in two weeks Monday, Oct. 14, by the Metropolitan King County Council, members of which said they needed more time to resolve issues surrounding its plat application.

Port Blakely Communities’ 194-lot development, which would be constructed west of Fall City along State Route 202 on 239 tree-covered acres, found itself among 63 agenda items before the County Council on Monday, as well as following County Executive Ron Sims’ 2003 budget address.

Council members said there just wasn’t enough time to discuss the plat application, with District 4 Councilman Larry Phillips saying it involved “very important issues that deserve our careful attention.” The council will again take up the plat application Monday, Oct. 28.

Phillips added more thought should be given to Port Blakely’s proposal to build a new road, called Southeast 19th Street, near the intersection of SR 202 and Southeast Duthie Hill Road to access the proposed development, as well as whether 194 lots were best suited to the surrounding area.

“This is a very visible site and I am concerned about the impacts there will be to rural character,” he said.
