Post-season play for the Cedarcrest girls softball team ended in round two of district playoffs, May 16, when the girls lost back-to-back games to Mt. Baker, and then Lynden, at home. Mt. Baker finished the tournament in second place, and Lynden finished in third.

The Red Wolves went into the playoffs with a 14-4 record, which included a five-game winning streak in the mid-season, and two wins over rival Archbishop Murphy.

Veteran pitcher Stephanie Hall, with catcher LuAnn Townley, started the tournament’s game 3 against Mt. Baker. She threw for four innings, accumulating 12 hits, 10 earned runs and four errors, before relief pitcher Allie McCain stepped in for the final two innings. McCain threw for five hits and two errors. The game was called at six innings, with a score of 15 for Mt. Baker, and 5 for Cedarcrest.

The Red Wolves scored five runs on seven hits in the game, three in the second inning and two in the fifth, but were overwhelmed by Mt. Baker’s 18 hits for 15 runs, with a six-run streak in the third inning.

From this game, the girls went on to face Lynden, in Game 8 of the tournament. McCain pitched three innings, allowing five hits, five earned runs, and two errors. Maddie Harris stepped in for the final three innings of the game, allowing another two hits for the night, with one error.

Cedarcrest started out strong, scoring three runs in the first inning, to Lynden’s one, but the bats faltered until the sixth inning, while Lynden continued earning the runs, with three in the third, two each in the fourth and fifth, and one in the sixth, for a final score of Lynden 9, Cedarcrest 4.

Karly Gidlof earned two RBIs for the Red Wolves during the game, and Kailyn Campbell earned one, also hitting two for three.
