A Tolt Middle School student has been held in a juvenile detention center for four weeks during an investigation into his alleged threats to family members, students and teachers.

Arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 6, the 12-year-old boy was charged with felony harassment of family members October 11 in King County Juvenile Court.

According to charging documents, Carnation police learned that the teen had talked about wanting to kill his family during a call to his home for a runaway complaint. Family members discovered that the boy had been staying in a neighbor’s camper and called police, who found two shotguns and a loaded handgun inside.

When asked about the guns, police stated that the boy told a family member that he wanted to kill some 20 people, including teachers and students who had bullied him. The school was contacted, and police interviewed the boy, then took him into custody. Talking to police, the teen said that he was tired of being picked on, and wanted to show the bullies “who’s boss.”

He was given an emergency expulsion, and is being held at the King County Juvenile Detention Center, pending the outcome of a police investigation.

In a statement, Carnation Police Chief Glenn Merriman said there appeared to be no imminent threat to Tolt students and staff.

The student did not bring weapons onto campus.

Merriman stated that anyone known to be directly involved in the incident has been notified, that police are working with the Riverview school district to ensure safety.

The teen was also charged October 21 in juvenile court with second-degree assault for choking his sister during a September 9 argument.

The boy’s mother told police that she was in the process of placing him in a juvenile behavior modification facility in Montana.
