Volunteer pilots called off their search in the vicinity of Mount Rainier Monday after six days of looking for a missing Snoqualmie pilot and his plane.

George Trupp, 53, of Snoqualmie was the sole occupant of a Cessna 177 that disappeared from Seattle radar monitors about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22.

Searchers focused on an 560-square-mile area north of state Highway 410, east of the Crystal Mountain ski resort near Mount Rainier.

“It’s a presumed accident,” said Nisha Marvel, an aviation spokeswoman for the Washington State Department of Transportation. “That’s all we can say right now.”
