Regional Fire Authority proposition gets majority of yes votes, needs more to pass

The proposed merger of King County Fire Districts 10 and 38 is getting voter support, but not quite enough for passage in the April 26 special election results.

Votes in favor of the two districts combining to form the Eastside Regional Fire Authority totaled 3,578, or 56.74 percent as of Friday afternoon. Votes against the measure were at 2,728, or 43.26 percent. The proposition requires a 60 percent yes vote to pass.

As proposed, the combined fire authority would cover unincorporated parts of North Bend and Snoqualmie, Carnation, May Valley, Preston, and Tiger Mountain, with funding from both a fire protection levy plus a fire benefit charge.

Another Valley fire district proposition, from Fire District 45 in Duvall, is passing with an overwhelming 1,979 votes in favor, 74.57 percent, to 675 votes, 25.43 percent, against.

Ballots will continue to be counted, with results updated daily at King County Elections. Results will be certified May 6.
