Two organizations, The Municipal League of King County and the Fifth District Democrats, have lent their support to Snoqualmie Valley School District’s middle school construction bond.

The Municipal League of King County on Thursday released its position recommending the measure. Issues management co-chair Vanessa Lund stated that the measure “responds to the tight economic situation faced by taxpayers yet meets a clearly identified need to address growth.”

The Municipal League of King County is a nonpartisan volunteer organization that works to ensure government is open, effective and accountable since 1910, and aims to improve the caliber of public officials and the quality of public decisions.

Democratic endorsement

Members of the Fifth District Democrats organization also gave their endorsement to the bond.

Last month, the group passed a resolution encouraging all active Democrats in the 5th Legislative District to support the bond measure by volunteering and providing financial support to Valley Voters for Education, the group supporting Prop. 1.

The resolution states that “as the economy recovers the Snoqualmie Valley School District student population is likely to grow in the coming decade faster than most other parts of the region eventually exceeding the current capacity of Mount Si High School… and it is imperative that construction begin to meet demands of student population growth.”

The group’s resolution notes the slim failure at the polls by the Feb. 8 bond, which was within a single vote of passage.
