The Mount Si Med Squad a group of friends, but also a developing guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital. The squad, primarily boys at Mount Si High School with a few younger brothers, got involved with Seattle Children’s when they decided they wanted to help the world outside their own.

For the past year, the squad has helped with fundraising efforts at Seattle Children’s, and brainstormed ways to help others in a small way, with a big impact. They decided to help boys who are going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments, with a fertility preservation procedure. Many young men going through cancer treatment are not looking at their futures, but a simple procedure could freeze their sperm, until they are ready to have families. The procedure costs $150, and is typically not covered by insurance. The Mount Si Med Squad’s goal is to help as many patients as possible.

They are raising funds this weekend, at the Snoqualmie Ridge Garage Sale. Along with items for sale, antiques, sporting equipment, bicycles, clothing, furniture and books, there will be raffle tickets for a quilt, a bake sale and prize wheel, with prizes donated by Seattle Children’s Hospital. Drawing for the quilt raffle will be Sept. 20, and the winner does not need to be present.

The garage sale will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday Sept. 18 and 19, at 6703 Azalea Way SE Snoqualmie. For more information about the Med Squad, send e-mail to felicia@pitchpole.net.
