Look for an unusual artistic event on Saturday, Sept. 10 in front of the clock tower at the Factory Stores at North Bend, 461 South Fork Road S.W., North Bend. A Mobile Living Room will be in place there between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., brought to the Valley by Snoqualmie Valley Arts Live (SVAL) in partnership with Factory Stores at North Bend and sponsored by King County 4Culture.

A mixture of voyeuristic reality television and performing art, a trailer, transformed into a living room-in-transit and outfitted with all the comforts of home, will be van-towed into place for the entertainment and amusement of shoppers and passers-by. The brainchild of conceptual artists SuttonBeresCuller, who will inhabit the “Living Room” during its appearance here, it is a part of the King County Performance Network (KCPN), a King County 4Culture program. It is one of a series of site-specific projects that will be seen around King County into early fall.

A unique collaboration between King County 4Culture, Local Arts Agencies (LAA’s) and performing artists from throughout the County, the KCPN was originally created in 1997 to link contemporary artists and organizations with suburban arts commissions, councils and entities (such as SVAL, a non-profit volunteer board) with their performance venues and with their audiences. The 2005 Performance Network is funded through King County’s Lodging Tax Fund, with support from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and KUOW 94.9 FM. Recognized for its role as a national model in connecting suburban audiences with engaging and challenging performances, KCPN has received numerous awards. In 2000, the KCPN won an award from the National Association of Counties for innovative regional programming benefiting county residents and has received repeat national awards from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Moving into an outdoor venue to bring the Mobile Living Room to the Valley is a new venture for SVAL, the non-profit group that has been presenting an annual series of concerts for the past 12 years. The SVAL will open its 13th season on Oct. 23 with Wylie and the Wild West. (All shows are staged in the Mount Si High School theater.)
