Now that the May 9 deadline for King County candidate filing has passed, local candidates are gearing up for the Aug. 5 primary election.
Snoqualmie Mayor Katherine Ross is up for reelection this year, and three other candidates have filed to run for the position. In Duvall, Mayor Amy Ockerlander is finishing out her final term, and two candidates are running to take her place.
There are also 13 city council positions up for election across the Snoqualmie Valley.

Carnation
Position No. 2 and position no. 4 are up for election on Carnation City Council.
Candidates for position no. 2 include Jim Ribail, the incumbent and Carnation’s current deputy mayor, as well as Rachael Pearson, a local mental health counselor.
Two new faces are running for position no. 4, including Max Voelker, who ran against current Councilmember Ryan Burrell for the position in 2023. Voelker took part in a 2023 Snoqualmie Valley Record candidate Q&A and said he prioritizes sustainable growth in the city.
Rohana Joshi is also running for position no. 4. Joshi is a member of the Washington State Democratic Party, a board member for Empower Youth Network and a student at the University of Washington, currently completing her bachelor’s degree in economics and political science.
Duvall
Duvall is electing a new mayor this year, and two candidates have filed: Alana McCoy, a local real estate agent, and Amy McHenry, who has served as a Duvall City Council member in position no. 3 since 2018.
Position nos. 1, 3, 5 and 6 are up for election on Duvall City Council. Position no. 1’s candidates include incumbent Adam Olen and Sara Taylor, a resident who is running in hopes of bringing more businesses and activities to town, according to a Facebook post.
Daniel Corkrey and Loren Kosloske are running for position no. 3. Corkrey is a resident who graduated from Cedarcrest High School in 2022. Kosloske is the current chair of Duvall’s Planning Commission.
Incumbent Mike Supple is the only candidate who filed for position no. 5.
Candidates for position no. 6 include Paul Wiggins and Jenn Hernandez. Wiggins currently serves on Duvall’s Planning Commission. Hernandez is the chair of Duvall’s Cultural Commission.
North Bend
North Bend City Council has three positions up for election this year, each with one candidate. Rob McFarland, a local real estate broker who formerly served as North Bend mayor but lost reelection in 2023, is running for position no. 2.
Incumbents Errol Tremolada and Mark Joselyn are running for position nos. 4 and 6, respectively.
Snoqualmie
Mayor Katherine Ross began her first term in 2022 after serving in several other positions with community boards, committees and associations. She also served on Snoqualmie City Council for five years. Her full list of accomplishments can be found on her campaign website.
Also running for Snoqualmie mayor are Jim Mayhew, Marcus Johnson and Matthew Mullvain.
Mayhew ran for Washington State Senate District 12 last year and lost the general election. He is a former Snoqualmie City Council member.
Johnson is a local resident who works for the Bellevue city manager as the strategic advisor and diversity, equity and inclusion outreach and engagement administrator. He is also a member of the faculty and the Core Course Coordinator at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.
On Snoqualmie City Council, position nos. 1, 3, 5 and 7 are up for election. Candidates for position no. 1 are incumbent Ethan Benson and Dan Murphy, who sits on Snoqualmie’s Planning Commission.
The other positions each have one candidate, all incumbents. Position no. 3 is Bryan Holloway; position no. 5 is Cat Cotton; and position no. 7 is Jolyon (Jo) Johnson.
