North Bend hosts recycling event

The city of North Bend will host a special recycling event, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Snoqualmie Middle School, 9200 Railroad Avenue.

King County residents can drop off scrap metal, appliances, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, fluorescent bulbs, electronics, petroleum products, tires, batteries and reusable household goods for recycling.

Certain types of items may not be recycled, or may carry a fee. Learn more at www.ci.north-bend.wa.us.

Mayor gets city leadership award

North Bend Mayor Ken Hearing has earned an award for leadership and service.

Hearing received the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) from the Association of Washington Cities by completing more than 60 hours of training credits.

Hearing got his initial certificate in 2005 and currently has 85 training credits.

The CML program is designed to enhance the ability of elected municipal officials. The program provides mayors and councilmembers with knowledge and skills required for effective governance.

To earn the advanced certificate, officials must attend a variety of municipal workshops on budgeting, land use planning and other issues.
